The Medelan.
Horto occupies the sixth floor of The Medelan, a historic building on Piazza Cordusio. The restoration, completed in 2021, was awarded LEED Platinum certification: the highest level a commercial building can reach.
LEED Platinum, in practice
It is not a marketing badge. On a standardised score it measures energy efficiency, indoor air quality, water use, low-impact materials and the handling of construction waste. Platinum is the highest level, and few commercial buildings in Milan hold it.
What it means for the person dining
Filtered air, daylight from the tall skylights, heating and cooling handled zone by zone. The systems stay below the threshold of notice: conversation should not have to compete with the ventilation.
Building and kitchen, one single choice
When the building that houses you is designed this way, the kitchen's own ambitions find an ally. Without the Medelan's LEED Platinum, some of what we do, from filtering the water to handling food waste, would be considerably harder.
